Let’s play a simple game; guess what’s selected:

Actually, I don’t know what’s selected either.
That’s what appears in my SanDisk Sanza MP3 player¹ when I try to save a recording (Yes, it has a recording function). Most of the time, I either randomly select any one and cross my fingers or try to play it smart and try to analyze/psychoanalyze/philosophize the UI:

Hmm, when I highlight stuff, it turns black, which means it’s selected, so it’s probably the one with the black background, but wait, when I mouse over buttons, they usually glow brighter, so it’s probably the one with the white background… wait, I think it’s supposed to be the one with the white icon…

Anyway, the bottom line is that they could’ve made it less ambiguous.
